Adult Sailing Classes   (Rolex Fundraiser)

Are you interested in learning to sail? We've got the course for you!

Purpose: To provide a structured skill based sailing instruction to adults who are interested in building their sailing skills to comfortably sail independently.

Instructional Outcome/Goal: Each adult enrolled in the course will be able to sail independently, understand the basic sailing skills, and apply these skills when sailing.

Dates: March 15th, March 22nd April 18th, April 26th. (all dates are required to learn full skill based curriculum, no make up days are available)
Time: 8:00am-11:00am
Cost: $200 per person (boats provided) .

Check will need to be sent to either 45-059 Waikalualoko Loop. Kaneohe, HI 96744 or dropped off with Jean at KYC office.  Please contact Jen if you are interested.  Payment will be required to reserve a spot in the course.  Please make checks payable to Kaneohe Yachting Foundation.  All money made will go to Kaneohe Yachting Foundation where it will fund your instuctors' travel, boat charter and entry fee for the 2009 Rolex reggatta in J22’s. (Rochester, NY).

Course is limited to 12 students.  Each boat will have an instuctor aboard during sailing time.   A 2nd course is pending completion of first course and interest in extending skills learned more on racing.

Day 1:
Lecture
Points of Sail
Parts of the boat
Intro to rigging and knots (figure eight, bowline, square knot, cleat hitch)
Tacking (turning through the wind)
Sailing
Tacking practice around figure eight course
Sailing a straight course
Sailing on a beam reach
Going into the safety position
Docking procedures

Day 2:
Lecture
Gybing (Jibing)(controlled and accidental)
Beating
Crew overboard
Sailing
Triangle course
Beating, Gybing
Back winding
Crew overboard

Day 3:
Lecture
Review: Tacking, Gybing, beating
Rules of the road: (right away)
Sailing
Triangle course, incorporating rules of the road

Day 4:
Lecture
Review: Triangle course
Introduce racing
Q and A discussion
Sailing
Mini Race, and trophy presentation
and/or Bay Cruise or Sand Bar mission
